Resveratrol helps prevent heart failure:
Chronic cardiac hypertrophy, or an enlarged heart, can lead to heart failure. Current treatments for this and high blood pressure often have serious side- effects. So for ten weeks, researchers gave resveratrol - a natural compound found in grapes, peanuts, other foods and especially red wine - to one group of rats prone to these conditions. Resveratrol prevented hypertrophy and other cardiac dysfunctions and it protected cardiac tissues without side-effects, suggesting resveratrol as a potential prevention. The findings will be published in a future issue of the American Journal of Hypertension but were released late last night.
